Out of intrest, How many of you are left handed? or have left handed children?

After reading the thread Are you LB or RB got me thinking if handedness has something to do with it?

I am a lefty and I am hoping dd is one to. Husband is right handed

Both of my parents are right handed

I am also RB and fairly good at maths

i’m rb 15-3, right handed as well - my son does not have any preference yet - he uses both hands.

Husband & I both RH Have 3 children - one lefty. He is pretty comfortable with his RH though. Grandma is LH. Funnily enough my brother and sister also have one lefty each in their children!

HeHe - looks as though my foster child is also a lefty!

I’m a lefty and so is my mother. Still not sure about dd.

Hi I am left handed, so was my father - although he was forced to use his right hand at school - and my son is left handed. On my husbands side, his mother is left handed and he has a brother who is left handed. Our son showed the hand he prefered very early and has stuck with it. Occasionally I see him pick up the pen with his right, but he changes it very fast. I have tried not to interfer and have placed things in the middle giving him the option to choose which hand he’d prefer.

TABS

Tabs, my mom was also forced to use her right hand. She says at school they used to tie her left hand behind her back. As a result she obviously didnt cope very well untill she was comfortable using the rght hand. Talk about confusing one’s brain!!! It is brutal!

My son LH and he will use his left leg first to climb stairs and so his left part of body is dominant. But we try to teach him to use both his hand for writing, drawing etc and both leg to climb up stairs and play.Study say’s that if ur child uses both left and right side of the body equally than it will help him to use his whole brain. And so we teach him to use both sides of his body equally.

SAPNA

Sapna, can you tell us what study you’re referring to?

my son was BORN LH, i guess its running in family, my dad’s LH, i was too, but my family changed me! so I’ve changed Kyle too but he still tends to use his left hand. I hear people n study saying its bad to change, can someone help me?
Cos I have had no problem so far n infact find myself weighing good in maths and picture memory

My brother and sister are leftys, while I’m the middle kid and am right handed. Baby Koen I believe is favouring his RH at present.

My husband and me are bought left handed .Our sons one is left handed and the other is right handed.their children are both right handed. From my experienc of a left handed i notice that i hate writing and get tired writing .Even when my son was small he used to tell me he is tired.

One of my kids is lefty… My husband’s brother is as well

I am right handed and my daughter seems to be right handed as well.

We’re both RH my husband and myself. My middle daughter only is RH, my eldest daughter and my son are both LH (they’re both LEO). However, we’re all excellent in Math.

my son didnt really have a choice. both sets of grandfathers are left handed. he looks so awkward with his crayon in the left hand but his strokes are perfect. maybe im just biased but they are

Its funny when people say to me im kacki handed ( a term used in Oz to describe left handers) I look at them and say your the one that’s kacki handed you look so uncomfortable using your right hand.

I have to say the only bad thing about being a lefty is writing because no matter what if your using a pen your work always gets smudged lol

There has been a lefty in every generation so far on my dad’s side of the family.

My great grndad was left handed
My great uncle is left handed
My uncle is left handed
and I am a lefty to.

On my mum’s side the righty’s dominate.

It also seems that left handedness is becoming more common. Maybe that’s because naturally left handed people are FINALLY allowed to use that hand without being forced to write with their right hand.

My husband and I are both right handed. Our son is 19 months. About 4-5 months ago, I noticed he was favoring his left hand for eating, coloring, etc. People all told me that its too early to tell. Well he is still favoring his left hand. I was worried at first, because I wasn’t sure what that meant. Why are some kids left handed and some right? Does it have anything to do with what they are exposed to early on? My half-sister is 12 yrs younger than me, so I saw how she was raised by my dad and step-mom when we would go visit. They played music for her when she was a baby, talked to her, provided a wonderful environment. She was and is a brilliant and gifted girl. She is the only left handed person in our family. I always loved how she was raised and when I had my baby I incorporated a lot what my parents did, for my child. So I guess my question is, since my baby is left handed, and he’s the only other left handed in our family, could it be more environmental? Such as me always playing beautiful music for him since he was a baby, reading to him, showing him flashcards/reading dvd/computer programs?

Also, someone wrote that left-handed people’s brains work backwards?? Does that mean he will have a problem with the reading we’re teaching now? Should I look for certain learning problems/disabilities and try to correct them early?

Thanks for any advice…

me and my husband are right handed but it seems zaku is left handed he prefer LH
