Anyone get results from Doman Math Method?

Hi, girls!
I’ve started Math when my baby was 4 mos. She already knows addition, substraction, division and multiply. I demonstrated cards with red dots as Doman recommends (but only from 1 to 51 - i had not enough time to do the last ). About 7.5 mos old I have asked daughter test questions - And she did All right!!! It is really exccellent! fantastic! now We know exampes with two different actions. I only ask if somebody knows how We can diversify our lessons. Thanks

Great to hear, Katarinka! Do keep us updated on her progress!

At what age is everyone starting math with babies? I recently finished Doman’s Math book, and was able (luckily) to get the Doman math flashcards on ebay for $12 including shipping. My baby is 5mo 1wk, and from what I was able to gather from the book, they seem to recommend 8 months, but I wasn’t sure.

I’ve also heard signing usually starts around 7-8 months, though I’ve been doing it with baby from 4.5 months. One sign language video mentioned something about memory development before 7 months that make it difficult for babies to recall if done earlier. Anyone know about when to start as it relates to brain development & memory?

I’m interested in LM, but just saving up to get that and LR deluxe as a bundle.

I just wanted to share my experience with Doman Math Method…

I started it with my baby when he was about 3 months. We finished it some time back. I tried the problem solving questions a few times while we were still going through the program but he didn’t look like he “got it”. I was a bit disheartened, but I kept going and stopped “testing”. I didn’t want him to read my reaction and get put off.

About three days ago, I gave him three problems - random ones (e.g. 63-31, etc.) and showed him two consecutive dot cards (e.g. 32 and 33), he got them all right!

It was the strangest feeling. I mean, I know babies are capable of doing this but somehow I still expected him to get it wrong or get confused. At the time I “tested” him, I was elated that he got them all right. Then, I wondered if maybe he fluked it so I tried another three random equations the next day. He got them all right, again. The third day (which was yesterday), I asked him another three random equations, and he got them all right, again!

I have an older boy - 3.5 years. I tried to introduce him to Doman Math once I heard about it but could never get him interested. I tried when he was 2 years old and I tried again when he was 3 (the same time I started the program with my baby). Although he looked at the cards, he couldn’t “see” them the way my baby can. When I show him anything more than 3 dots, he will physically count them.

So for me, I believe you should start young! The Doman staff told me to begin the Math program at 3 months which is what I did.

Can we use doman math method for 4 years old child?

The program is said to be for kids 0-6 years, but when I bought the kit, they told me it was “too late” for my older boy who was nearly 3 then. They said you had to start earlier or it doesn’t work. I tried it with my older boy anyway, and it didn’t work for us. Although I remember another mother saying that she did the program with her 3 year old and he was still able to pick it up so I guess it’s a very individual thing.

This is supposed to be a right brain function and I believe that my older son started the transition to his left brain early which may be why he couldn’t “get it”. He’s too logical. Everything is why, why, why.

So it might still be worth try giving it a go for your 4 yo. As far as I see, there’s nothing to lose.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences !

My son is 28 months old. I’ve tried hard to make myself the dot cards… but because he lost interest, I’m trying the LM.
And it’s fantastic ! He loves it!
He’s “brain-injured”, and I’ve been showing him YBCR for more than a month. Taking into account that he’s Romanian (non-English native), he’s learning English fast. He can show some parts of his body, he’s started to learn TTLS song, he repeats words before seeing them, or before being pronounced.

Your responses on the forum have risen my confidence in the Doman programs. And for us, LM is the best choice for the Doman Math. He likes numbers, he likes to count. That’s why I want to do with him the Doman method as soon as possible. I want to give him a chance to have the ability in learning math with joy, no matter what or who he will meet at school regarding math learning.
We’re on the trial period with LM for now, but I really need to have it. It saves me so much time, effort and we both enjoy it, my son and I.

The Brillkids team did a great job with their LR and LM, along with all the parents who have been helpful on this forum.

It doesn’t work

We have an intuitive ability to discriminate amounts and a flair for estimation might foster mathematical aptitude. Spending time honing estimation skills by comparing sets of dots can be done at any age.

The GD claim that babies can subitize large quantities is not supported by evidence and expecting the impossible will lead to disappointment.
