You are welcome!!
In my daughter’s case, she had already started reciting (and thus counting) numbers when she was 9 months old (her favourite then being the number 6). By the time she was 2, she was well ahead in understanding the recitation portion.
I am still unsure if she can add and subtract (and hence actually count) yet. She is close to 3 1/2 now. We have the Abacus tool at home and also use the Doman method… But she does have the sense - I just dont push her to add yet.
I do things like going to the grocery and giving her two apples and two kiwis and then adding them up to 4 fruits… something like that. Playtime study helps BIG time… back it up with the abacus. The Melissa and Doug one’s are really good. I got mine from IKEA. But yeah… Now I am looking out for a good play study math school to help her.
I am a little unsure of my daughters abilities with counting. Today she was playing and pretended there was something on her bike that showed numbers and that we must go when it reached eighty - she then started counting from 60 but got a bit stuck at 70. She can do basic addition (up to 5) in her head and the same with subtraction, but she tries to count too fast when using manipulatives. She can tell me what number comes after another but not what comes before though she can count backwards from 10. She is 3.5 years old.I am hoping to start a math programme soon but for now we just continue to play and we are doing a number chart 0-100 - I give her two new numbers everyday.
We also do some reading of books that have to do with math and he likes them.
You can see them at amazon. The y help in reasoning and doing some counting or addition.

An important issue is not only to count forward but backwards to prepare for subtraction. I think a 100 number chart would be very good to start counting by 5, 3 etc. Now he likes counting fast in spanish and specially saying odd numbers.
