Just wondering when to start a second language for my little boy who is 11 mths old. I don’t speak a second language so was thinking of starting with French or Chinese and am looking at Little Pims. But think I might wait until he is a bit older, my husband thinks he is too young, would love to hear your thought? Thanks

Actually, the ideal time is BEFORE 8 months old! But NOW is an excellent time to begin, the younger they are, the easier and more natural it will be for them to pick up second or third languages. Just do your best and learn right alongside your child! DVD’s and such to teach foreign language are valuable tools, but studies show that kids learn better from live people, so try to say the words with the DVD to help your child learn. You can also hire a baby-sitter to speak another language to your child if you don’t personally speak the language you are trying to teach.
