hello doa

welcome to the forum.

No you are not too late. 16 months is a good age maashaa’Allaah.

For more information about teaching arabic, you can join the discussion in the teaching arabic forum: http://forum.brillkids.com/aal’rby/

With my 12 month old, I show her two sets of arabic everyday. One set consists of arabic words, and the other set consists of the arabic alphabet for qur’aan reading.

You can download a few samples of what I made for my dd in the downloads section of this website. Here is the link: http://forum.brillkids.com/downloads/?cat=176

Hope it helps.

thanks bk87…
i downloaded your flash cards,gazake alah 5ayer
so i can start with alphabets and words together,
i’m thinking of making sandpapers for the alphabets like the Montessori way,
and should i teach my baby the signs (tashkel)?

thanks alot…

If your baby is ready to start writing, then yes the sandpaper letters are a very good idea maashaa’Allaah.

When I flash the letters at my daughter, I always say the last harakah, e.g. كتاب kitaabun.

The reason being that most people who learn without the last harakah, they dont know it when you ask them. Whereas if I teach her the words with the last harakah, then inshaa’Allaah as she grows and speaks/ hears the word without the last harakah then inshaa’Allaah she will know what it is even if it is not pronounced.

Inshaa’Allaah once you have completed the alphabet, then you can move onto the tashkeel. There are many books that you can use to help you, such as Qaa’idatun-nooraaniyyah. I will be using this one inshaa’Allaah:

I use this book as a guide to create my flashcards.

Take care and all the best in your teaching. x
