Teaching Time and Time Management

Hi Everyone.

I am trying to figure out how to teach the concept of time, and time management to my children (4 years 3 months). I am aware of the famous Judy Clock that I discovered on a Montessori website:

from subsection “3 to 6 Math” > http://michaelolaf.com/store/3to6math.html

and found the main company, and prefer the large color-coded version:

I also like the concept of Time Buddy to teach time management:

I need to teach them that we have 20 minutes to eat, and that when you waste 5 minutes talking or distracting each other, you lose that time to eat; or you will be late to school (afternoon classes only ) and miss out on your lessons and seeing your friends. Or we have “X” number of minutes to complete this task, etc. They tend to distract each other and it is beyond frustrating when we are on a schedule, even though I have padded it for some distractions.

I do use a timer on the stove, as well as pointing out the minute hand on the big analog clock for them watch; but they do not quite get the concept of time yet. I asked their Montessori head teacher when they begin teaching it, and she said at the end of KG in the third trimester (2 more years).

I did not see anything in the IAHP Evan Thomas catalog and will call IAHP and see what they recommend.

In the meantime, what do you do? suggest?

Thanks.

We’ve learned a lot from this one: http://www.amazon.com/V-2dTech-Cuckoo-Pet-Learning-Clock/dp/B00153CVYO

Thank you DadDude. I also found this online flash version of the Judy Clock:

(mentioned here: http://community.prometheanplanet.com/en/forums/curriculum/f/14/t/3281.aspx )

I think I am going to make a .ppt similar to the concept of TimeBuddy, where there is an image of the activity in our routine/schedule, along with an image of the Judy Clock with the beginning time and ending time.

Now - if I can only find the time to do it. lol
