My son (2.5yrs) just received a package from his auntie containing 3 great costumes for role playing - doctor, fireperson, and police officer. I plan to have a theme that lasts a week and in that week I’ll bring out that particular dress-up costume. I’m looking for some ideas that maybe you’ve done with your kids or some websites that you’d recommend me taking a look at before I begin my “lesson” plans. Thank you in advance.
I don’t have any ideas for websites or lesson plans, but just thought that if you wanted to include a book themed towards what you are working on that week, my son LOVES the fisher price books about Police Officer Patrick and Firefighter Cheryl. They give some very vague ideas as to what each profession includes, so may be a good way to start off, especially if you could just borrow them from the library.
Great tip on the books! Thank you…and thank you also for putting the proper term back into my mind…as I typed “fireperson” I was trying to be politically correct but knew it was the wrong word. The old brain ain’t what it used to be!
In the summer we walk by the local firehouse and peek into the windows. I may bring him by one day and ask for a tour. Also, I haven’t received a ticket in a long time so he hasn’t seen a police cruiser up close either lol That would be a thrill, too
If anyone out there has seen any curriculum type guidelines that are a bit more substantial than colouring sheets, I’d welcome your suggestions.
Hey Kizudo, I’m sure you can go to the police station to meet a police officer. No need to get yourself a ticket for a “field trip”
I know the firehalls in Winnipeg had an open house in October. Maybe there will be something where you are.
