Teach your child about science through music

Anyone heard of this album by “They Might Be Giants”? They have some really cool science songs for teaching concepts to kids…

Here’s one of their songs teaching the elements of the periodic table.

They have a lot more on youtube:

I heard of this, but didn’t know much about it until a few days ago. I finally gave in and began checking into it.

I also know of Peter Weatherall who has CD’s and music videos (I think).

They were recently discussed on another thread. I went ahead and bought the DVDs. I think they are great!

I am a big supporter of They Might Be Giants!!!

 I even posted about them on my blog.

They also have a math and ABCs version. The videos for those are also available on youtube.

Peter Weatherall is another must at our house.

I believe that Rock N Learn has some great DVDs that we are interested in buying on Science and Test Taking Strategies. The videos use really great technology, but are geared for older kids.

Would you mind posting a link to their actual website?

I bought the DVDs from Amazon. They were much cheaper than their website.

Which links are you referring Kimba15?

Thanks Annisis! I got Peter Weatherall’s DVDs. I still like the songs from “They Might Be Giants” better (have that DVD/CD, too) but Peter Weatherall’s got more content. Rock N Learn Science videos look good, too. Might consider those…

I was quite excited to listen to “they might be ginats” songs, but unfortunately I clicked on the first one which was just HORRIBLE! It was “never go to work” which seemed SO negative, and enforcing the hate of all sorts of things! Terrible! I will try again

I actually love that song. It is quite catchy and it teaches the days of the week.

Sarah - yeah, that’s the only one that gives negative connotations, but the others are really great. My boys love them! My older son (who’s usually the harder one to please) really likes the blood mobile song. He seems to be interested in the human body because his favourite Dr Seuss books are “All the Things You Can Do That are Good for You” and “Inside Your Outside”. We also have another book “Your Amazing Body” which he enjoys, too.
