Spelling City Free Online Spelling Program

We recently started using Hooked on Spelling software and workbooks which is going well. I put the word lists into Spelling City today to ensure that they have them down pat before moving on and to mix things up a ltitle. I think I will use both programs at the same time for variety, depending on the day.

Here’s a link to my lists I started, this includes all of yellow level 1. http://www.spellingcity.com/TeachingMyToddlers/
I will put in red level soon. Alternatively, you can go on their forum and see that other users have already created lists for many well known programs such as Abeka, Harcourt, etc. http://www.spellingcity.com/List-Sharing/

You know, it would probably be great to use alongside phonics lessons in LR or Reading Bear (learn/review them using the software and then check for retention using Spelling City). Obviously, this website is better for children who are a little bit older or who are not opposed to being tested. It’s not really appropriate for say a 1 year old, quick two year olds who love the computer might be able to handle it with the right parent guidance.

Hope that helps someone out!

Hey thanks! I hadn’t even thought of this but I know my son will need spelling words next year to supplement school. Since all his peers will still be learning to read he won’t get spelling words for another year but he needs them now. Plus he loves the computer. Thanks I will check it out!
