shichida 1 year old class

Hi all,
I am updating the class activities done in the Shichida class as I promised before.
My son was 8 mth 2 weeks when he started his first lesson, however he is posted in the 1 year old class. Initially the previous post was about infant under one year old class, sorry I can’t find the previous post.

The Shichida method is a full brain programme. The lesson is one hour. First half an hour is right brain training then follow by left brain training.
As the class activities change super fast ( at least to me, my mind is always blank after the class ) I will list down whatever I remember, please do note that they are not in order. Do bear with me that I might not explain it well as I just started the class in April. I am sure alot of other experience Shichida parents can help me out here

(sorry I continue to post later, my son need to nurse)

The following all will be demonstrated by the teacher once and the child have to follow once ( hmmm… actually is the parent who is doing all the activities )U do not need to do all these at one session but item 1 - 7 require regular practice.

1 - Breathing exercise and relaxation exercise
For young babies as they still don’t know how to breathing in and out deeply according to instruction, the teacher use toys as a tool for them to blow. U can use anything eg: feather or something hanging and u show your child how to blow. In this way they are breathing in and out.
2 - Senses play
We are given two cards ( like poker card size or smaller) , one with a number on it, the other one blank. Eg: a number 2 in red. So the teacher show the child these two cards and tell the child he had to look for the red hot number 2 for teacher. And we shuffle the cards ( turn it up side down) and put it on the table. And guide the child’s hand on top of the card to feel where is the no 2 card. And get them to pick out the card.

3 - Image play
We do pretend play. eg, U can show a pic of a beach and say now we are going to beach and pick up some seashell … and w a few toys like starfish, seashell … . U can play this w anything under the sun, can go along with your child’s interest.

4 - Memory play
The teacher will flash 5 cards, first time with a storyline, 2 nd time flash w the objects name only. The child has to arrange the card accordingly, after that we turn it over and teacher will randomly pick a card and ask where is this card and the child have to flip that card over.

5 - Speed play with flash cards
Flash cards mostly pictures, seldom words. I should say drawings or clip arts.
6 - Speed play with dots programme
Flash cards with dots.
7 - Eye training
U can use any toy that your child is interested in and held it in all direction and ask him to follow the toy.
8 - Music play
Songs are played in the class, mostly available for sale at their shop if I am not wrong.

Sorry I just can’t finish writing in one post, as my son still awake and needs my attention.

9 - Speedreading
A 5 page ‘book’ was given to us and we flip to the page when the audio is on. All are one sentence per page story. First play in normal speed follow by 2x speed.

10- Puzzle (2pc)
The child has to put 2pc puzzle together, usually they use drawing of fruits or animals.

11 - Blocks
3 small cube was given and the child has to stack it.

12 - Counting numbers
We can just use any object and get our child to count. eg: a drawing of 3 apples, and count 1,2,3. 3apples.

13- Memory training? I am not sure the correct name
Flash one picture for awhile and later on show 2 pic and ask the child which was shown just now. The child got to pick one.

14 - Mix and match
Drawing of some objects, eg: spoon, fork… and actual object and the child is suppose to match them.

15- shape sorter

16 - Foreign language
First a set of drawings of Sawako ( the character of the story) was flash w background audio in English follow by German.

I think I covered most of the activities in the class.
Usually they use clip art or drawing not real picture in the class. Throughout the lesson, alpha music was played except when other songs are on.
Flash cards used mostly A5 size with drawing/clip arts.

U might wonder is the children able to do the above? Mostly can’t, especially those that the child are suppose to put in here and there. Usually they will want to grab it and put inside their mouth. And when take back all start to scream.
But I am amazed to learn that after a few lessons, all these children know that after each activity the toys will be taken away and now all of them seldom make noise unless something that really catch their attention.
And for those ’ pick one card’ game 80% of the time the children will get it right.

If I remember anything again I will update all of u.

Sad to say, Pro Shichida passed away last Thur 2am. I feel down now as it’s through Pro Shichida’s books that lead me to find out more about early education. I feel connected to him through I don’t know him at all, I was hoping in future when he comes to Singapore for talk, no matter what I will attend and thank him, now I don’t have this chance anymore.

Yes sad to hear he has passed away …

Although we do not attend the class … we do some of the practices at home and some of it in her right mind program classess … what you describe is …quite common … in the part where the children initially bite the cards or snatch the cards etc … and subsequently know that it would be taken away … i guess with a consistent pattern they will know the routine …

as for picking the right cards … most got it right initially 30-40% of the time and improves to 70-80% out of 10 cards … that was my daughter attending at around 8mth old … too, she is now 16mth … other kids who came also subsequently did as expected …

thanks for telling us, please do keep us updated … and many thx in advance

Hi Trinity papa,
Thanks for your info. It’s really fun to see all these little children attending class. My son enjoys the lesson very much because all these children are around his age. Mostly older than him.
May be you can share what is taught in the right mind program as well, seems interesting. I heard HK offer a lot of good right brain schools.

Thanks for that, Luckymommy - you’re a lucky mommy to have the opportunity to attend Shichida classes!

I didn’t know about Prof Shichida’s passing away. Very sad to hear! :frowning:

wonderful…I am on the waiting list…hope it will get it started soon…

meanwhile, I have already started my baby on YBCR and Glenn Domann…

Which book are you refering to? Where can i get this?
I’m sorry to hear about his passing :frowning:

Hi waterdreamer,
I am referring to the books written by Pro. Shichida. The books are written in Chinese. If you want a English copy you have to order directly fr Shichida Japan. Hope this helps.
