RBT for infant

Hi, I would like to check at what age can we start introducing flash card to infant?

I understand that baby now is only able to see 3 primary colors, white black and red.

Any idea when will they progress on to be able to see more colors?

Any great website for me to indulge in finding more information for RBT for baby.

Thank you.

Hi Joleen Tan !

Reg. colors for babies , you are right - the first 3 months they perceive high contrast images pretty well…, the geometric patterns on high contrast white , black n red are most preferred ones.
By 4 -5 months, their sight jumps high and they do recognize your face from all others in the world.
I moved from contrast cards to regular flash cards by 5th month. You could pretty well catch them by seeing your kiddo’s interest .
By 8-9 month they would pretty much be aware of all shades of gray ! In short, babies first one year babies is to experience rich vision

Below websites could help you to proceed with RB for ur kid :

  1. First and best where I find the best flashcards are from Brillkids website

Below are my fav. blogs n sites from great moms

2.Shen-Li Lee I’m sharing your website here for reference as its one of my favorite :hi5: http://www.figur8.net/articles/right-brain-education/

Hi cherrymon,

Thanks for your reply.

Would u mind to guide me for the few question below.

  1. Flash card session with infant, we basically just flash but at a slower speed right compared to toddler of 3 years old. Do we need to read out the word? No right for infant. I hope I been doing the correct thing thus far.

  2. What do u mean by high contrast colors?

  3. When you mentioned all shades of grey, does it mean that they still cannot see other colors like pink, yellow etc?

Lastly, I understand it is preferred to use flash card that is big like A4 size, is A5 acceptable?

Thanks so much!!

Joleen

Hi Joleen !

  1. you can refer below for doman method :
    http://figur8.net/baby/2009/04/16/early-childhood-education-flashcards/
when I play the flash card game, I was told toshow the card quickly –
about one second per card as a rule of thumb.

  2. High contrast shapes and patterns provide the baby
with something to focus on. eg. red & white squares etc.
You can download the infant stimulation pattern from Brillkids.
    refer - http://www.huggamind.com/highcontrast.php.

  3. aah, I just meant to convey that by 8-9 months , babies vision
becomes so rich that it could identify all of the colors  (all of the shades_
eg. my son could differentiate ‘warm blue color’ to ‘cool blue color’ etc)

as the kid grows the size of the card doesn’t matter…atleast for me

Happy learning !

Hi Cheerymom

Thanks again.

I understand the rule of thumb for applying do an method but was wondering what the point of saying out the words of the object to the baby.bbeside those stimulation card graphics has no corresponding reference term.

Sorry if I’m starting to get confused. :frowning:

I read somewhere that for infant flashing of cards to be done by 10-15 seconds for the bb to grasp the object image.

Joleen
