Programming - Logic - Technology Skills for older children

Hello Everyone ! since I am sure we have many computer genius here at the forum maybe we can get some input about how to start kids on programming, I understand there are a lot of benefits in teaching logic to kids using technology at early age, I know at the Doman institutes they use a specific program but I do not remember which one it is, I remember I was impressed with the fact of teaching logic, but I was not impress with the program itself, or maybe it was my poor understanding of the subject at the time, if there is any Doman mom who has recently attended the Graduated course your input will be much appreciated. I will send the institutes an email and share the outcome when I get an answer.

A friend of my husband who teaches education technology recommened this site to us

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Will certainly look into it more closely when Felicity is older!

I have seen this product and am interested in it;

My husband is a web developer, and he says that he hasn’t heard of this computer language, but that it looks like it is a very simple one, one kids could grasp and learn from, but not one that is used very much in the real world. But to be a competent programmer, you need to know several programming languages. I will look into this more when my 2 year old is older. Good luck!

Hi Tamsyn,

Here’s a link which you might find useful for learning about Logo:
http://el.media.mit.edu/Logo-foundation/logo/index.html

Essentially it’s a “programming language” that’s been around for a few decades, and is actually designed to help people learn and understand how programming in general works, rather than as a workhorse programming language for professionals.

Hope that helps,
Shuki :slight_smile:

Thanks a milliion

Will check it out, been busy lately.

Regards,

Gloria
