Need help with ideas for a costume!

My girl got a part in a school play. Well, it is only a line of 5 words and it is not a big achievement, as every kid in her class got a role, but I still feel rather proud.

I need to make her a costume of a squirrel and I need to make it cheaply and easily. I thought, perhaps, to make a paper mask to wear on the head, dress her in orange-tone clothes, but I can’t think of how to make the tail as it has to be rather big and fluffy.

I know there are a lot of creative mums on this forum. Could anybody give me an idea?

Congratulations to your daughter! I don’t consider myself very creative but if I had to do this, I’d probably buy some cheap, very fluffy orange/brown fabric and maybe some pillow stuffing material, and sew the fabric into a tail shape, stuff it and attach it to your daughter with a belt? Not sure if that’s the best way or not but it shouldn’t work out to be too much money, depending on the cost of the fabric? Good luck and enjoy her big night!

Thank you AussieMumofOne and TMT for your replies! Unfortunately, my sewing machine is broken and I am not sure I will have time to get it fixed… Our local council supplies us with orange plastic bags to recycle paper. As I have quite a few spare rolls now, I am now exploring the idea of turning these into a costume…

That’s a great idea! Why not use one to shape the tail and the others to stuff and fill the tail so it looks real? You could use clear masking tape to roll the first bag into a tail shape?
