Mandalas

Does anyone have a good resource for mandalas that I could start with a 26 month old? Any apps you can recommend? If not, can you recommend a good website or book? I want to start these with my daughter soon.

Do you mean Mandalas to colour in?

There are many free colouring pages out there, such as

http://www.coloringcastle.com/mandala_coloring_pages.html

There are also mandala creation programs (some free) such as

http://www.colormandala.com/

http://www.mandaladrawerer.com/

And you know you can take your creations, put them in an ebook and give them away from a blog, or sell them on Amazon Kindle.

It’s actually the number one selling Kindle book for ADULTS these days (says a lot about adults, really. I cant believe adults are colouring in when they could be working online to create a lasting legacy for their children.
I buy self-help books off Kindle and cant believe they arent the most popular books out there! But I guess I’m just a driven kind of person.

Thanks for the links! I will take a look at them. I am looking for information/resources on using mandalas for memory training/photographic memory.

I want to use mandalas to help develop my daughter’s photographic memory. Has anyone done this with a young 2 year old?

Interesting about mandalas. I watched the videos in the link below - I suppose that’s what you’re talking about?

Have you checked out the Josh Foer TedTalk and the techniques used in the World Memory Championships?

I’ve been following this stuff for some time and plan on using their techniques for memory stuff.

The primary methods used by WMC competitors are:

  • Linked list (I think this is a primary one for Shichida)
  • Peg System
  • Memory Palace

I would recommend the website http://artofmemory.com/ for info on how the WMC competitors train. I’m excited about training myself with these mnemonic methods and also about helping DD learn them… so I would be glad to talk about it more!

Cheers
Steven

Ah, I see that this mandala stuff is somewhat different from the WMC methods. Maybe the mandala games would be a precursor to, and eventually support, the other visual mnemonics!

Hmmm, in a separate thought, I would prefer to call the mandala work “imaginative visual memory” rather than “photographic memory”? Just it’s my understanding that the brain compresses images into outlines and fills like jpg’s or other algorithms, so what we’re actually remembering is more like a cartoon than like a photograph.

But looks good! I’ll have to come back to this in a year or two.

This is the first time I’ve heard about using mandalas for increasing photographic memory. Definitely share with us how it is going! My first thought was using it for coloring that has been so popular lately in bookstores.

I’ve heard this app is good, although I haven’t used it myself. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mandalas-memory-trainer/id523064312?mt=8
Mandalas are totally doable with a 2 year old, especially a precocious one like yours! They just have to grasp the concept of the directions. Start with 3 colors, move on from there.

I have on my Nokia an app called Mandala4Kids - they show you a picture, then it disappears in few seconds (depending on the level you’re in you get less or more time looking at it) then the colours disappear and child have to remember where each colour was and colour it accordingly
