Hey Guys!
I’m looking at teaching my 4 year old french and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions. I got a Teach your Baby French CD from the library, but it was too dull for my son. I also took out Teach Me More French which is better, but I’m looking for more whys to do this. Can you offer me any suggestions.
I know very basic french having been in French Immersion till the 5th grade. So I’m hoping in the process to brush up on my french too. My dad is fluent and it is my grandmothers first language so I’m going to ask them to start talking to him in french too.
Very open to ideas!
Thank-you
Do you need advice re: dvds, cds?
I use Little Pim French and a nursery rhyme cd. I know that Baby Bits has a French version but I haven’t tried it.
Do you have Little Reader? some French files are available…
Thanks for the advice. Yes I do have little reader. I never really thought of using it. Now this Little Pim what age is gear towards? I was looking at it, I especially like you can do stuff on the iPhone.
I guess I’m wondering if anyone has sucessfully taught their child another language that they are not fluenant in and how did they do it.
Oh yeah and I did come across that BabyBits. What do you think of it? Is it worth the cost?
Hi,
We have two boys who we are teaching Mandarin. When we started we couldn’t speak at all! It has been 5 years and is going really well. I think the main thing is that you have to use a variety of approaches. The videos are good but only if just supplement with them. Total Physical Response is a method to look up it is extremely effective for little ones, they love it! I have just started a site for parents to share fun interactive ideas on teaching their kids a new language. I would love for you to join our little group! We would love to hear from you any ideas you have questions, and any cute stories you have or will inevitably have with learning another language!
Most importantly just don’t give up! Even if you think it’s not working! It will pay off!
Hope to hear from you soon and have you as a subscriber!
Why don’t you watch a Little Pim sample on youtube and see if your son likes it? I think at age 4, they still enjoy watching other kids on tv. I know from my own experience and reading this forum than kids react really well to this program.
I think they have series 4,5,6 coming up soon…
I can record French cartoons for your son and put them on DVd if you want.
Hi Everyone,
Happy to be a member of this very dynamic and active forum. I am coming back to you about french as a foreign language for kids.
Having some experience in this field for 4years, i must say immersion on a regular basis is a very nice way to teach your baby.
Reading is an important thing of course with the use of flashcards/screens, even exposing yourself and your kid to TV/DVD.
But in those circomstances the baby is passive and memorize only visually.
However facing a real person/situations, speaking french and having fun activities will help the kid to memorize with his emotional state, i.e french=fun.
There are plenty of different method being used, but each of them praising only themselves so i would say a bit of everything is the most balanced intake you can bring to your child.
Well i hope this help, do not hesitate to contact me for more info about french and your babies/kids.
Cheers!
