Little reader and Little musician - not working with Windows 10

Hello, it’s me again!

We updated to windows 10 last month and since then it has been a nightmare.
LR and LM are no exception. Since then, I can’t see any animations and some files are reported like missing (mp4 files, I think).
Do you think this is related to the new Windows version?
Is there a way to solve this?
And… are there any updates coming soon for us who have been left with half-working LR - LM?

Aside from the “missing file” message, did you see any other errors? To clarify, BrillKids programs are compatible with Windows 10. The problem/error may be related to which OS you updated from, and which versions of LR/LMh/LMs you had prior to the Windows update.

In the meantime, please try the following:

1. Check and make sure that you have the latest versions - for Little Reader, the latest version number is 3.6.1660, for Little Math it’s 2.3.780 and for Little Musician it’s 1.6.870.

In case you cannot open the programs right now, you can check the program versions this way:

  • Right-click on the START button (or press Window button + X on your keyboard)
  • From the menu that opens, choose “Control Panel”
  • In the Control Panel, click on “Uninstall a program” (under “Programs”)
  • In the list of programs, find and select “BrillKids Little Reader/Math/Musician”
  • You should see the version number in the “Version” column of the program list, or you can refer to the “product version” displayed below the list (if you select LR/LMh/LMs)

2A. If you have the latest version and it’s crashing or doesn’t open/work, do a Repair of the program (the same steps apply for LR/LMh/LMs):

  • From the Control Panel > Uninstall a program screen, select LR/LMh/LMs and click “Change” (you should see this button above the list of programs)
  • In the setup wizard window, click NEXT, then choose “Repair”
  • In the next page, DO NOT check the “Replace current word library with default word library” option, then click REPAIR
  • Once the repair is finished, try opening LR/LMh/LMs again and confirm if opens/works without any errors

2B. If you have an older version, update to the latest version:

  • Sign in to your BrillKids account and go to ACCOUNT > My Purchases > Little Reader/Math/Musician Software
  • Click on the green “Download Little Reader/Math/Musician” button
  • Once the download has finished, open the .zip and double-click on the installer (.exe) file
  • Follow the prompts in the setup wizard to finish the update

**You don’t need to uninstall your current LR/LMh/LMs prior to the update. The setup wizard should automatically detect your older installation and your program will be updated without deleting your lessons/personal files.

3. Check and make sure that all Microsoft .NET Framework versions are enabled:

  • Click on the Search Windows button (magnifying glass beside the Start button) then search for “Turn Windows features on or off”
  • In the Windows Features window, check “.NET Framework 3.5 / 4.6” (if you see more “.NET Framework” items, select those too)
  • Click OK. You may need to wait a few minutes as the .NET files are downloaded/installed automatically

4. Update all your LR/LMh/LMs curriculum file(s) by re-downloading them from your BrillKids account. For instructions, please refer to these articles:

After doing the steps above, open or restart LR/LMh/LMs and confirm if the errors got fixed. In case you need further help, just let us know at support(at)brillkids(dot)com. If you still get errors, please send us your diagnostic report too.
