Many years ago when my girls were toddlers I discovered the show Little Bear on Nick Jr. They used to watch it often. I actually taped it off of TV and had hours of Little Bear episodes on tape. I love Little Bear. It is the sweetest show. Mother Bear and Father Bear are so calm and loving. Little Bear has a great imagination and participates in all kinds of imaginative play with his friends Duck, Hen, Owl, Cat and Emily. If you are looking for a sweet, calm show for your child you should check out Little Bear.
Little Bear has often been a great comfort to my children when they were sick. If they were ever up at night because of upset tummies or what not, I would put on Little Bear for them and they would be comforted.
The Little Bear books are easy readers that read exactly like the show. These were the first books my 2 year old read independently. I think Little Bear will always be a favorite of our family. I just ordered some Little Bear DVD’s from the library to introduce to my newest munchkin. I hope she enjoys meeting Little Bear as much as the rest of us.
You can watch it here.

Thanks for sharing, Krista! I remember seeing some episodes of Little Bear long ago (babysitting, maybe)? It is a sweet show, and I believe it teaches values, right? I have never seen the books though. I will have to look for them at the library. I’m sure my son will enjoy them.
My aunt swears by Little Bear. Many of the cartoons they have out for kids these days are highly stimulating and fast paced, I will probably have to get some of these on DVD too. I like Little Bear, Little Bill, Oswald, and Caillou. Curious George is a great one too. I will have to look for the readers when the time comes, I already have some Little Bill readers too.
I am not sure that Little Bear teaches values but it portrays a simple and sweet life in which they use their imaginations in their play. I realized while watching it again the other day that it is the music that makes it so wonderful. They play this wonderful, mellow, instrumental music throughout the show which really relaxes my children. It is great to watch before bed or when feeling sick. It has literally saved me when my kids were up all night with the flu. I would put on Little Bear and they would be content while I drifted in and out of sleep. I wish I owned the whole collection. I think there are 11 DVD’s. It is illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Such a nice, sweet, innocent show. It will always be a favorite here.
