Is this a good time to introduce a foreign language?

I speak mandarin to my daughter. Hubby speaks english to her and my mother-in-law speaks cantonese to her. I would like to introduce spanish to her but I am wondering if this is the right time now. She is 23 month old now and here in Hong Kong, they actually introduce kids for entry into kindergarten next year. I am sort of worried that she might be answering in kindergarten interview, partly English + spanish if I introduce Spanish to her at this stage.

I intended to bring her to Spanish playgroup.

Is this the right time or should I wait till she gets a place in kindergarten?

Why not try it after the kindergarten interviews, then you don’t have to worry. By the way, children are able to sort out what language to respond to if you are consistent. I am a teacher and I’ve taught a lot of mixed children who would respond to their parents and grandparents in different dialects, eg. daddy in English, mummy in Cantonese and grandma in her special dialect. I think you find it the same with your daughter. Don’t worry!

Thanks Mable . Will do.

I think it will be too tiring for her if I squeeze in Spanish playgroup and Kindermusik on Saturdays. I will wait till she turns 30 months old.
