In which language should I teach my child to read

We have just heard about brillkids and the wonderful adventure of teaching your babies to read… Our first born is almost 3years old and the second just over a year. They both are exposed to Afrikaans and English, but the majority of the time they hear Afrikaans and fluently speak it. They only express themselves with a couple of English phrases. Would it be better to teach them to read in Afrikaans?

Hi and welcome to the Brillkids community! You can search through old posts and find a ton of information. I would teach them to read in both languages if you are able. You will find that many members on here have successfully taught their little children to read in more than one language. My daughter (2y3m) has had daily exposure to Spanish and English since birth and can read in both languages.
Good luck on your EL journey! It’s a lot of fun
