how do i make my baby's day fun

hello experienced mum’s out there, i am a new mum with a lovely six month old baby boy. i am finding it difficult to fill his day with fun activities. though i have alot of laugh with him and started introducing him to the little reader, i think he is bored from 4pm onwards.

any ideas as to how to entertain and engage him. we go out alot too and he loves been out.

thanks to you all

Hi elorm,

Usually in the evenings after my son has nursed his late afternoon snack I read to him. Then when it comes time for me to prepare dinner I secure him in a space I can watch him and introduce him to something new from around the house that is safe for him. Measuring cups, spoons, his sippy cup, his spoons, etc.
In his playroom we have a soft play set he is beginning to explore on.

I usually give my son a massage after trying a couple baby yoga positions with him.
My son also loves watching Readeez.

I am also looking forward to reading about more tips.

I checked out the gymboree book reccomended on this site and other similar ones from the local library or recommended on amazon. I would also consider getting a Montessori album to help you with ideas. I would search for the Gymboree Baby Play book (I think that’s what it’s called) and “Slow and Steady get me ready” on amazon and then see what other suggestions come up, and check them out of your library.

Here’s another book on early Montessori with some notes about it- Montessori from the Start: The Child at Home from Birth to Age Three

I do not have personal experience with these albums but I really love their DVD’s. http://www.mymontessorihouse.com/Montessori_Teaching_Curriculum.html
Just beware, people have been having trouble with shipping lately.

Some more good resources here http://www.homeschoolmontessori.com/infants.html

Also, look into Tweedlewink, they offer some good ideas. Good luck & let us know how it goes!

I have you tried ‘swimming’ in the bathtub with your baby? My 5 month old son loves when we put our swim suits and both get into the tub. I have been using the ideas from Doman’s Teach Your Baby to Swim book. He cuddles, back floats, submerges (3-5 seconds) and jumps off the edge of the tub. It is also a great place to practice grasping/beginning brachiation. When we are done the swim stuff then we sing some songs and splash. If needed then I actually soap and clean him. I usually follow this up with a nice long baby massage. The swim/bath takes about 30-40 minutes and the massage and dressing takes 10-20 minutes. The process from start to finish usually takes me an hour. I sometimes do this in the morning or middle of the afternoon, I don’t just reserve it for night time. That way if I swim/bath in the morning, I can do other activities at night and keep my baby guessing/entertained.

Sometimes I do a basic baby massage, other days I alternate between soft and hard items to help him with tactile sensations.

Good luck.

TMT, thanks for all the links and video! you are so ‘resourceful’ always

hi elorm ! my baby is 3days younger than yours. just to share, i sing nursery rhymes with my baby. she likes ‘head, shoulder, knee and toes’ as i will use her hands to ‘dance’ along the song and she will laugh! take this opportunity to teach her head, mouth, eye…

great ideas you all. cans omehow give me an idea of how your typical day is like. i am very bad at planning my day. i hide behind taking elorm on long walks, then we will do a ilttle of ybcr or little reader, then he gets some ten -fifteen minutes in his activity groove which he loves so much because he bounces up and down, a massage in the evening, sometimes read/sing to him , or allow him to explore with his toys.

hope am on the right path. ordered some of the materials suggested.

not been to any baby class yet as the one close to me starts 9am.

any experience with these classes and will anyone recommend.

cheers
