Homeschooling is Growing

Homeschooling is Growing
Is a summary of the article by USA TODAY, that I found to be interesting.

Number of Homeschooled kids 1.5 million in 2007 in America.

Source: Top home-schooling reasons in 2007 Parent and Family Involvement in Education Survey

The reason why homeschooling is growing in America is because…

• Concerns about the school environment (including safety, drugs, peer pressure): 88%

• A desire to provide religious or moral instruction: 83%

• A dissatisfaction with instruction at other schools: 73%

• An interest in a non-traditional approach: 65%

It’s growing not only in America, but in my country too (Romania).
At least as I could see by looking rapidly through few forum discussions on homeschooling in my country, the situation is like this:

  • the educational law in Romania doesn’t officially allow homeschooling, yet (some ONG’s and few politicians are trying, but no success so far. It’s hard to change a menthality…)
  • so the parents enroll (I don’t know how yet) their children in Hungary so they can do homeschooling legally

Wow, you know I forget about different countries. It is amazing what your country has to do to just have the freedom of homeschooling your children. K to you!
