Hi Lappy and all the moms keen to teach.
I am a retired Montessori director and I have 4 grandchildren under 6 yrs who live close by. The 2 older ones come to lessons with me and I have taught them to read.
As I was pondering if the younger ones could also get started I came across the Brillkids website and was thrilled with it.
Parents need the language materials and the suitable ones are not easy to find or make. I have printed out the flashcards for theier mum to make a start.
I hope to introduce more parents to Brillkbids.
Dawn.
Welcome dawn!
Certainly start the younger ones! They are more than capable of learning to read now. Little reader is a great program for teaching reading. There is a lot of information in the forum archives. Use the search feature to find answers to specific ideas.
Wow we have a montossori specialist on the forum now! Awesome. Many parents here use montossori methods as well. Many use the book Montossori at home for ideas but it is great to ask someone with experience at times too. Hope to hear more from you!
Welcome Dawn!
I am new as well and about to post my intro. Brillkids is such an amazing place isn’t it?
So happy to see a Montessori teacher on here. I am just starting my Montessori research. I have a 9month old and I’m trying to figure out what are the best toys and game to engage in with him. Everyone says “blocks”, but I want to get much more specific. Right now we do play with blocks, stacking toys, balls, lots of variations on rattles, a drum. He just got a toy kitchen for Christmas and some toy food to go with it (salad and fruit lol lol lol ).
Are there any toys/activities/games that are favorites of yours for the under two crowd? Do you have any books that you’re familiar with that do a good job of explaining the Montessori way with lots of specifics? There is so much information out there!
Would love to hear your thoughts. It’s so wonderful that you are teaching your grandchildren to read, they are so fortunate, what a precious gift from their Grandma.
