Geography DVD's for Kids

While looking for Spanish kids books for my kids at the library yesterday I happened to run across a State capitals Kids DVD by accident. Then I saw they have one for each area of the world.

It seems pretty solid so far, I just put it on for my daughter. It basically goes down the list state by state with each capital and a little about each state/capital with some video clips of each. The quality is actually very good. It’s divided into regions and I think I might just play a region at a time instead of let it play straight through although she seems plenty interested. The voices are varied, spoken clearly by kids. My daughter just ran into the kitchen where our US map is posted and started looking at it, so she is clearly drawing a connection.

I think it’s cool that we do so much map work (with the 50 states right now and we will expand on that later) and now she can see it all in another medium. It’s made by Schlessinger Media and is called “U.S. Geography for Children.” There are a bunch of DVD’s in this series, I am going to try and work our way through them one by one. Just thought I would share in case your library has them too.

While looking for a youtube sample clip to share I found this instead. This is a little dry, but it looks like they have lots of different subjects. Might be worth taking a look at.

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out at my library.

Found the company online

Thanks! Does it say on the DVD what age these are recommended for?

I have the state capital DVD in front of me and it says K-4. It’s only 23 minutes long, it gives a very brief fact on every state/capital like what their famous for, what major crop they grow, when they became a state, etc.

Perfect. Thanks a bunch!

I just added the company’s link to my favorites. Thanks! Looks great.
