Gabriel has his first cold. It really sucks b/c he got it from the doctors office. He went in for a well check-up and got a cold! I hope it’s not something serious like the flu or something. He doesn’t have a fever as of now, just a runny nose, red eyes and sneezing. So I’m going to do some extra breastfeeding and hope that he gets some good sleep tonight. He was up at the crack of dawn this morning (he normally sleeps until 10 AM or so). I really hope it passes quickly and I don’t get sick since Thanksgiving is Thursday, and we’re supposed to be around family.
Poor baby! I feel so badly for him. And like all children, he hates for me to wipe his nose. Daddy was instructed to pick up some Puffs so Gabe’s nose won’t get irritated.
Hope Gabriel feels better soon! Funnily enough Naimah had her first cold/flu right after turning one too! Must be a rite of passage or something… I was kinda taken by surprise, as I felt almost invincible with the breastfeeding!
Definitely the BFing you’re doing will make a big difference, both in comforting him and helping to speed his recovery.
Isn’t it funny how much babies hate us to wipe their nose? It’s such a tragedy… lol I remember when Nim was very small, nothing would make her more upset than having her face washed!
And if you do get sick, look on the bright side - you’ll be making the right antibodies to help Gabriel get better sooner!
Sorry to hear that! But I like to look at such things positively - they are building up their immune system and defences early, so the sooner the better!
Sorry tohear about Gabriel. If he has a stuffy nose and since now you shouldn’t give cold medicinetobabies something that workedlike magic for EVERYONE in my family is rubbbing Viccs on the bottomof the feet.then cover it with a sock. It works like magic! It even works on the adults!
My daughter also has a cold she is one week away from turning 6 months old. Since I stay in India, I am lucky because homeopathy is comon here. This is her 3 cold and if I start early her cold normaly only lasts 48 hours.
One tip I can give you for those sensitive noses is rubbing a little nappy rash cream like desitin on it. I use is with my 3 year old too and it can turn a red nose back to normal in one nights sleep.
The vix theory really does work - it’s about the only thing I use for colds. As they get older you can put it directly on to their chest which helps with the breathing, but for babies mix half vix with half vaseline. Having a bottle already mixed up helps. And as has been said before you can use it on everyone in the family.
they do have a vics baby rub that I ADORE!!! it is the coolest thing ever! and one other thing that I found with my babies is someting called natrabio childrens cold and flu they are homeopathic oral drops that help the babies ALOT my kids get better so FAST!
One thing we do with Blaise is take a warm shower and hold him in it. It is soothing for him and the steam loosens up anything in his chest and by the end of the shower any congestion in his nose/sinuses will have run out. Then we just clean him up and he usually feels so much better.
K also has a cold right now. We have also been trying homeopathic remedies, but it seems like her syptoms change so quickly that I think I am choosing the wrong remedy. Does anyone know any good web sites to learn more? I did take a homeopathic first aid course, but would really like to learn more.
As imentioned before about rubbing the vicks on their sole .When jake was a baby once he was in the middle of us and did not was to raise his shirt to do on his chest ,i remembered of a lesson that i used to go for reflokology and she said that it the sole represents all our body .the middle is stomack. So i gave it a try and it worked because withen 2mins he had no more colic and he was just 6months old.
my little girl was 2 months premature so when she was just 2 months old she got a really bad cold i couldn’t put her down it scared me too death those few days i didn’t get any sleep. but sure enough it passed and know everything is fine but kids get sick they don’t have the immune system we do.
Koen got his first cold this week. I have been putting nipple cream on his nose to reduce the pain and redness. It has been working well. Like others have mentioned a soothing shower works wonders.
When Sophia has a cold, I put a pot of boiling water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it under her bed and let her breathe in the steam. Nothing clears the sinuses like eucalyptus oil, and its avaliable world wide, but make sure its only a few drops as it is very strong.
I had the flu (the real deal) last week. It was so bad I ended up with a throat and ear infection (the ear infection in lingering, too). I was so worried my baby would get sick, but he didn’t. I just nursed him through it and he get a bit of a runny nose, but that’s it.
