Forming Numerals Poem

I used to use this with my kindergarten students back in the day. I’d give credit but I frankly don’t know where it came from - a co-teacher? the internet? Enjoy!

  1. Pull straight down, and then we’re done. That’s the way to make a one.

  2. Make a candy cane and give it a shoe. That’s how you make a two.

  3. Around the tree, around the tree, that’s the way to make a three.

  4. Down, across and down once more, that’s the way to make a four.

  5. Short neck, Belly fat. Number Five wears a hat.

  6. Down, around in a circle we go. That’s a six, don’t you know?

  7. Across the sky and down from heaven, that’s the way to make a seven.

  8. Make a snake, then don’t wait. Hurry back to make an eight.

  9. Make a circle, then a line. That’s how you make the number nine.

  10. Tall straight, circle then. That’s the way to make a ten.

It sounds similar to the poem in the Baby Einstein book My first book of Numbers…they do something like that, but yours is better.
