Fingers on keyboard/piano

Hi,

I would like to teach my kid how to place her finger correctly on the keyboard. I just taught her how to play London bridge is falling down using CDEF but with only index finger. Is there any site or any resources that teach where each finger is to press on which key?

Thanks!

Baby mum it’s mostly a logic thing in the beginning. Most often thumb is on c. Do check out softmozart s forum as there are many videos that show correct fingering.

Check out nursery one album on the link.
Once you watch a few you will have a pretty good idea. Some piano teachers are really pedantic about getting the right fingers on the right keys but from my experience with my kids the ones who were given more freedom stress less about hitting wrong notes and so are progressing faster. One of my girls struggles to move from chord to chord or position to position because of the emphasis on correct fingers when she first started playing. It’s like her fingers are glued in one place. Allow for some creative interpretation but just encourage multiple finger use is my advice.

Thanks Mandab, will look thru the soft Mozart link!

babymom,

if you have a MIDI piano/keyboard, you can try the software and use the teaching videos from the SM forum and advice frome parents and teachers to teach her. Here’s a thread with great advice from a wonderful teacher about fingers and position and how to: http://softmozart.com/forum/61-master-class-with-lubov-yanpolsky/10242-please-advise-for-melody.html#10285
