Doing maths with a toddler

Hello,
I just want to share my experience. I have just found out about Brillkids. So far we have completed all Doman maths programme with dot cards. It works miracles. My baby is 20 months old: she can count from 1 to 10 in English and from 1 to 6 in Polish. She has already demonstrated me that she can recognize e.g. number 0 or 10 and > sign. We have already started comparing dot cards with numerals. She loves it and asks for more. I have started translating my blog into English: http://teachyourbaby.pl/index.php/en/ You are welcome to visit it and share your experience.

Math is about more than counting, it is also about size and quantity. Stacking cups or boxes are great. Pouring water into different size containers at bath time is also great. He can sit at the table and count the plates, cups, forks etc. when you set the table. He can also count while you give him two spoons of corn. Put toys, which are about the same size (cars or farm animals) into two groups, ask him which has more then let him count to find out. Does he know his uppercase letters? The older decks of Uno cards make for great play; all they need is colors, numbers and 3 uppercase letters. My 3 year old plays now like a pro, except that the puts his cards face up on the table, and just last week started dealing. We also used to count the teeth every morning when we brushed them. And he would count socks to put in the washer. Dice games are fun so are games with spinners they will help him recognize his numbers and give him counting experience. Most of all have fun.

Actually, it’s “she”  - a 19-month-old girl. Thank you for all your advice. Of course, apart from doing Doman maths we count different objects and play with maths around us. Your counting teeth reminds me of our counting stairs. I haven’t translated the last post into English yet but you can see our first results in the videos. I am really proud of her, especially that I am the only source of English for her and I am not a native speaker:

I always ask her “how many?” when she wants something to eat. She always answers.
We have been focusing on lowecase letters so far with the exception of proper nouns like her name. We have already completed all Doman’s whole-reading programme in English and we are finishing it in Polish. I have just downloaded Brillkids Little Reader. I am thinking of buying it.
