Digitial Counting Higher Than 10

Dear Everyone,

I remembered a book that my Sheikh’s grandfather wrote: A Math Book for Children: Digital Counting Until 10,000 . I am attempting to get a copy of it and translate it from Urdu to English.

In the meantime, I found these online:

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-count-higher-than-10-on-your-fingers/

http://www.howtodothings.com/hobbies/how-to-count-on-one-hand-the-chinese-way

http://www.und.nodak.edu/dept/math/history/counting.htm

Is anyone familiar with these methods?

It’s funny, I had this weird foreign teacher in the first grade. She told us not to put our hands in our pockets, as well as not to count on our fingers. I have never used my fingers to count.

my husband uses the binary method to be able to count to thousands (I forgot to which thousandth place - ones or tens) with his hands. he tried to teach it to me once, but I have since forgotten it. since my son is into numbers right now, adding, subtracting, multiplying single digits (moving to the tens now), he is trying to teach us both the binary method.

Thats funny you said that. I remember in the first grade I was told not to count on my fingers, so I just invisioned my fingers in my mind and counted on those ones LOL. I thought I was so smart cheating the system LOL
