Difference Between Little Reader and Doman Method

Hi!

Can someone please tell me what’s the difference between the Little Reader and the Doman Method for both Reading and Math? I curious not about the obvious, which is LR being in the computer and Doman the actual physical flashcards, but the method. All I know is that Doman reading is 5 sets of 5 words flashed 5 times a day, how does LR go in order to get results?
I am curious about the math as well.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi there,

Firstly, please see here for a list of differences between LR and flash cards in general:

In terms of playback schedule, each day’s lesson shows 3-5 Categories of words (typically 6 words each) each day. It depends on whether they are ‘regular’ Categories, Pattern Phonics categories, or Stories.

If you watch our Quick Tours, I think many things would also become clearer:

Hope that helps!

I think LR provides a lot more visual interest and flexibility. There is WAAAAAY less material preparation for the parent, which means more time to spend with your little one!

I see LR as “doman inspired.” They took the Doman ideas and made them BETTER! Doman had the right idea and paved the way, but the technology like this simply did not exist in his day. So, I think of LR as the new and improved version of the big red word cards which goes far above and beyond the original method.

Also, Doman doesn’t really touch on phonics the way that LR does in the flash pattern phonics lessons. Some kids cannot learn without phonics lessons, my DD appears to be one of them. Using the phonics in LR and other programs is what really helped her learn to sound out new words, she never could make the leap without explicit phonics instruction.

Either way, enjoy the time you spend educating your baby in whatever manner you choose.
