I found this interesting - it supports what I’ve long suspected that many children with High Functioning Autism are very, very intelligent. I have several friends whose children have autism. My husband would probably test on the autism spectrum - and I think my two year old would also if not on, just barely off. I don’t plan to have him tested for awhile. What I thought was most interesting about this is that the more the parents indulged his interest in math the fewer symptoms he displayed. We have found this to be true of reading and music - primarily music.

My son (almost 3) may be considered high functioning autistic albeit we don’t have an official diagnosis right now because once he ages out of early intervention we will not be enrolling him in preschool or doing IEP. However We do certain therapies with him at home.
He was assessed by a psychologist/autism expert in our school district and the official report right now say something like :
James exhibits autistic like tendencies, which will most likely manifest as Aspergers Syndrome or High Functioning Autism. We suggest formal assessment for James when he is 48-72 months.
James displays higher than average cognition function, gross motor skills and fine motor skills. He displays lower than average social skills.
James also exhibits the savant-like ability of hyperlexia. (Hahaha, she didn’t believe I could teach a 2 year old to read)
Sonya I would love to watch the above YouTube video. It is not allowed to be embedded, could you please list the name so I can search for it.
Korrale4kq,
I realize that it didn’t embed. But if you just click on the youtube icon in the bottom right corner, you should be able to watch it directly on youtube. Or if you click Jake: Math Prodigy …it should also take you to youtube to watch it.
Not an option on my ipad.
But I will search now. Thank you.
