Bedtime story

Hi all,

My daughter is 7 months old.(She is my first baby) I want to start telling story at bedding time. Could anyone share any books and skills for me?

My son is 15 mos and I picked up some inexpensive educartional books at walmart and target - some fave’s are funny bunnies or anything that rhymes and isn’t long - also animals and i started reading to him after bath time before bed time and i’d make him ‘turn the page’ when he was like 5 months old and after he could crawl, he woul d bring a book to me so we could read it - he could turn the pages by himself with help (pages stick together even though board book) by 7.5 mos. and could tell which book to get by 11 mos. by me saying the first line.

He loves books and is very curious about what is in them - we are reading stories now - short, short ones. But bedtime isn’t complete without a short book and sometimes 5 or 6. Doesn’t matter what you read, as long as you just keep at it - you’ll create a reader.

I also take a few minutes each day to read for like 5-10 mins and he now goes and gets his book and pretends to read and then brings it to me so we can read together…

Hi, my daughter is 13 months old and I have been reading to her since she was tiny (from about 3 months or earlier) though bedtime stories only started sometime around 6 months. I used any of the short board books - also usually rhyming stories but even ones with just good photo pictures and single words went down well and books about colour and shapes were often a hit.

My daughter had a short concentration span particularly at around 8 months and would try chewing the books, turning the pages much faster than I could read and throwing the books on the floor - if she did that I stopped reading even if she had only had a few pages and she was quite happy. Recently though I got through a whole story that was quite long and on normal paper rather than a board book so definitely just keep doing it and work through any issues as they come up - as long as your baby is enjoying it, you can’t really go wrong.

Thank you Tanikit and Meandlinc to share your experience. I started my bedtime story few days ago but she seems not interested. Anyway, I will try my best.

just keep at it and eventually she’ll likely show an interest - some kids just aren’t as able to be still, like my friend’s youngest son - all her other kids loooove to read bcz she did it from the time they were tiny but her youngest is very physical and has a hard time being still. He is at the top of his class in reading, though.
