My son HATES being put on his tummy. Occasionally, he doesn’t mind lying on his tummy while I pull faces at him or lying propped up on a cushion for a couple of minutes but mostly he screams. He is actually getting really good at pushing forwards with his legs (though he seems to think its ok to suck your thumb while crawling  ) but screams the whole time. I don’t dare let him crawl more than 1-2 mins and though I try to encourage him he just hates it! I’ve tried putting him on my mattress, on a camp mat on the floor, on the carpet… nothing helps! He just screams from the moment he’s put on his belly!
Anyone else had this? How did you overcome it?
Thanks!
Most babies hate being on their stomachs until they get used to it and realize that they can move around. You just have to keep at it in small increments. You will be able to gradually increase the time you let him be on his stomach, and eventually he will love it. Try to put toys or interesting things around him to look at and get down on the floor with him.
Thanks! I’ve been putting him down loads and now he will do several hours in a day, though most of them are sleeping He still doesn’t like crawling. I’ve made him a crawling track and put him in it and he’s fine when simply lying in it and sucking his thumb but he still cries whenever he tries to move. I guess it’s mostly frustration, since he doesn’t really get anywhere without having my palms behind his feet. He actually kicks his legs up in the air rather than pushing down into the mat… hopefully he’ll work it out soon enough
Have you tried putting the track at an incline? If it’s high up, his kicks would move him more and it might not be so frustrating. But maybe you’ve tried that already, and if so, nevermind!
Hello! I had the same problem as you. Some people said to me this happened because i didn’t let her to stay on her tummy when she has a few months. I tried myself to let her staying on her tummy and put in front of her, at a distance, but not far away,a toy she liked it very much. Even I stayed myself with her singing and telling her poems. But no results! Isaid to me:It’s not a good idea to force the child! Then she was starting to roll over on his back and tummy. In the beginning, she was staying a couple of minutes trying to reach the toy but not moving. Until 8 months and half she didn’t crawl. I put her toys on the ground and I let her there to play with them and I play myself with her. She likes the ball very much. She likes, even now, to stay on the ground. And after 3 days of staying down I saw my daughter started to crawl after a duck. I was very happy with tears in my eyes!
However, don’t worry! Every child has his own development and when it’s time for it, he’ll do it!
I hope will help you! If you have question, don’t hesitate to ask me!
Most babies dislike Tummy Time at first, so it takes a little patience. Try some tummy-down holds like the “football hold†and the lap soothe, instead of always propping him upright on your shoulder. This may get him accustomed to the position. Check out this website for more tips from Pathways Awareness: http://bit.ly/8IhuuF. Hi All… here is an answer to your all confusions on baby crawling,
Babies learn many activities when they r in their beloved mom’s womb, and after coming out if you could give the opportunity to them ,they create wonders(actually that is their naturality ,but we see it as a wonder). And if you give them the crawling in time, that means…while baby is active and playful, then they will enjoy.other wise if you give them while they are very sleepy, defenetly they hate crawling.and don’t put them in crawling tracks, take a vinaile sheet (the size is single bedsheet) ,size.and you can get this sheet in every hardware shops and i sent to many countries from India fr many new born babies.
and if you put the baby in the crawling track, baby feels loneliness and "hates the tummy time’'.so practice this with your baby and have a joyful crawling.and finally you need to train on how to give crawling to your baby, you can’t do it by reading some where,or by watching videos.Because till now i have given these trainings to 100’s of new born babies.

India.
sorry to sound stupid but what is a crawling track??
A crawling track is basically a wooden or foam track so that baby can push off both sides for mobility.
