I really believe that girls’ and boys’ brains are wired differently. Girls are naturally better with written and verbal areas, such as reading and grammar. Boys are naturally better at math. This doesn’t apply to everyone, of course. I have taken developmental psychology, and that’s something we learned about. Sure, if a teacher isn’t competent, it may reflect on her students, but I don’t see it having a long-term impact. I had many different female teachers and all of them seemed quite confident in teaching early math, but math has always been my worst subject. No one ever told me (or gave me the impression) that boys are better at math than girls. I just was never that good at it. In fact, I think I was ok with basic arithmetic (which is what this article seems to be talking about). It wasn’t until higher math that I started to have problems.
On another note, why is there a picture of a boy with a mohawk in an article about girls?
In Europe I have known and had female math teachers teaching advanced maths and most girls did just as well as the boys. There are some extrememly talented boys though, that’s true. Any general problem however is to my knowledge cultural and specific to America. I have not heard of a math problem in other countries or about a large part of the population being afraid of maths. That is very strange.
In South America, I know girls who are genuines, I think it all depends on the preference, the way the person was developed.
has a book, I REALLY recomend for EVERYBODY
Why Men Want Sex & Women Need Love (hardback) by Allan & Barbara Pease.
the book explains why the differences between men and women and how the brain develops the girl and boy.
not speak anything sexual
also speaks that girls learn faster than boys in elementary school
It is one of my favorite book
In portuguese (for those who are from Brazil) is POR QUE OS HOMENS FAZEM SEXO E AS MULHERES FAZEM AMOR.
For those in the UK, there was a dispatches programme on Channel 4 recently which looked at maths standards in primary schools. All primary school teachers are required to teach maths in state schools here, and the investigation found that most of the teachers were (a) not proficient enough to teach it and (b) had a bad maths experience at school themselves. If I remember correctly, this clearly has an impact on the students’ maths experience, but there was no gender difference.
