A community for non-native speaking parents - nnsparents

Hello everyone,

I made last week a new website that is actually a community for non-native speaking parents: nnsparents.com

http://www.nnsparents.com/

I don’t plan to promote this all the time here, but I just would like you to know that there is now a place where we can get together and talk about our experiences, problems and help each other. It’s a social community with a forum. You can follow updates, add friends, send messages and use the forum there for anything related to non-native speaking parents.

This website was created since I feel that it’s very hard to connect with people doing the same. There are a lot of people concerned about raising a multilingual kid, but the majority are native speakers and sometimes they don’t have a positive opinion about this subject, with common myths like “your relationship with your kid won’t be the same”. That is a place to encourage each other.

It’s a website for:

  • Parents raising a kid with a non-native language doing OPOL, ml@h or any other approach
  • Parents raising a multilingual kid with a language they don’t speak (using bilingual school, tech resources, etc.)
  • Bloggers who write about this subject
  • Anyone who feels that can contribute or need help and have a positive opinion about raising a kid with a non-native language

The language in the website is English, but you can join it despite of what your target language is.

Bloggers also have special area to promote their posts.

The design is very simple so far, but I plan to make it better.

We look forward to hear from you there!

Mario

It is a very good idea

Thank you nuria.

You can always join discussions at our Foreign language teaching Boards, – large percentage of our international members here are non-native speaking parents  teaching their children variety of 2nd, 3rd and 4th languages, and their experiences and accomplishments are awesome!!

With BrillKids being the largest Early Learning online community with international membership ( we have more then 100 000 members who’ve posted here on the forums at different times!) you’ve got a treasure chest of advice, experiences and tips!

You can also visit our existing country Boards http://forum.brillkids.com/foreign-country-boards-disscussions/ or request the one for your country (if it is not there)

Or participate in Foreign language discussion Boards http://forum.brillkids.com/foreign-language-boards-discussions-(english)/

Hope this helps!

That is a great idea. And, of course, Brillkids forum has a lot of parents already in that boat. I find it difficult to teach my children the languages we are working son simply because I am not a native speaker. We use a lot of different methods, however, I know they would learn easier and more quickly with immersion. Maybe some day I will be able to afford to hire a bilingual sitter or tutor
