Video updates of Ella's reading progress in 4 languages

Hi evad3,

Are you teaching them traditional or simplified Chinese? Also, where are you located? If you are in the US, you could check out these online sites for chinese books, dvds, and educational toys:

www.chinasprout.com
www.asianparent.com

I am teaching my daughter traditional Chinese and I have found it quite difficult to find books in traditional in the US (Most of the graded readers and content-based books I like are in simplified. We recently made a trip to Taiwan and we came back with 2 suitcases full of books and dvds!) If, however, you are teaching simplified Chinese and can read Chinese, then you should be able to find a lot of good stuff on those two sites I mentioned above.

There is also a subscription-based Chinese learning program called 巧虎 that I highly highly recommend. Basically, it is a monthly children’s book that comes with a monthly DVD, educational toy, activity book and learning math book. The DVD features 巧虎 and children talking and singing in Chinese. It has several segments in the DVD each month - science segment and animal of the month, music and movement, storytime segment, math segment, good manners segment (like how to answer the phone, saying I’m sorry, etc.), and good habits segment (like eating your veggies, hand washing, brushing teeth, using the potty, etc.) It comes in different levels for different ages and is probably the BEST investment in learning Chinese that I have made! Anyway, let me know if you are interested and I will give you the subscription details.

For Spanish, aside from LR, dvds, and music CDs, we have the following:

I live in the US , I decided to teach him simplified characters since is easier to get materials.
I wanted to ask if Ella ever got bored with ybcr dvds, my son is now 10 month old and he seem bored with the dvd ,he only like the songs. The samething is happening with wink to learn dvds and little reader.
I dont know what to do . He have become an expert at looking away when the word appear in the screen.
I stop showing him YBCR dvds and i am currently showing him only little reader, but the lessons have to be super fast.
please any advise ??? anyone??

Hi evad3,

Yes, there came a point in time when Ella lost her interest in YBCR (around 13-14 months) and that was the time I started researching online about early education and came across this forum. lol The reason could be a lot of things or a combination of things - your son could have already learned all the words and is looking for new stimulation, he could still be in a very right-brained stage and prefers more rapid flashing, he could be working on a new developmental skill (e.g. crawling, walking, talking, etc.) … Also, babies change so much and respond to different things at different stages. You could try to put away the dvds for 2 weeks or a month then bring them out again later to see how he responds.
