raw/living food?

I have really been looking into this lately and think that it is a great thing to do for your body. Now, I don’t think I would ever go 100%, but who knows?

I was able to check out several recipe books from the library, so you might check with yours to see what is available. The best thing I have found so far for my little guy is to make a “green smoothie”. Like you said a lot of raw foods are to difficult for little ones to chew without choking so this is the perfect solution.

All you do is take a large handful of greens, I have only tried spinach so far, then add lots of fruit, some water and ice and blend it all up. I put in bananas, apples, grapes and mangoes.

You don’t taste the greens at all. It is a bright green color though. Jacob, my one year old loves it! I was so excited, he will drink it through a straw. My 5 year old says she likes it but will only drink a little bit. She didn’t like the grapes because there were still bits of skin that just wouldn’t blend up. (my blender isn’t all that powerful).

My older boys wouldn’t go near it (8 & 11) they saw the spinach and the green color and ran! I don’t want to push it too much because if they know I realy want them to drink it they will want it even less.

Just google “green smoothie” and you should come up with a lot of options. But I have found it is great for getting raw fruit and greens into the little ones.

On the subject of raw milk. Does it taste the same as “regular” whole milk. Does it keep as well?

I found an all organic grass fed dairy farm just a few miles from my home. They sell raw milk in thier shop. So I am excited to give it a try. I was a little shocked that it was $10 a gallon  Guess I won’t be saving all that formula money after all. Oh well, any thing for my babies.

Does anyone know if raw milk is available in Singapore?

TABS, what age can you start giving living food (juice) to babies?

Raw milk is most likely not available in Singapore. There’s a goat farm but the milk is pasteurized. I heard that goat milk is better than cow’s milk. Is anyone feeding goat’s milk to their kids?

Sb1201, I love the green smoothie idea. Karma to you! I can’t wait to try it.

Hi there joan,

As soon as you start solids. Often you are encouraged to start with fruit puree, which is usually cooked. By juicing the eg. apple, pear etc. you could give your baby living food. To start with you will probably find that you are drinking more of it than your baby - and it does have to be juiced and given straight away. It is a little sloppy, but that is good when babies are little, if it is a bit too runny you could always add a little baby cereal (not too sure how you feel about cereals…). You could later include vegies into the mix like - an apple and a carrot etc. It’s pure food so you can’t go too wrong with it. Your baby will let you know if they like the taste or not. With all early food you’ll find there will be preferances. All the best…

TABS

When “regular” milk spoils, you throw it away. When unpasteurized milk gets older, it turns into other things. Remember - you can make curds and whey with it, butter, cream, yogurt. It doesn’t spoil, it just becomes other things.

Unfortunatly, I was unable to find any of these books at the library so I haven’t read them yet but here is a list that has resources for children:
