Montessori continents map-reading names of continents/ motor skill

Hi Martusia,
May I know how to view your video or pic? I can’t see any at brillkids webpage. It is blank. Thanks!

I mention my grandson about the video of your baby recognizing the continents and he wanted me to do the same. Sorry i was not prepare with the continents names on the cards but I have a poster of a map i bought time ago and once in a while showed him. SO… I mention again the continents and ask to locate Peru.
Whe i said Africa he told me where the ‘wild’ animals live.
I also told him that it was where they where playing the soccer workd cup which he watches with his dad
Nice experience but I will make my name cards.
Nice video indeed.

Thanks for the idea.

Thank you Martusia.

Love,

Mum.

This is just wonderful Martusia! Thank you for sharing! Love the video your little one.

I love that hammering! Thanks for all these great ideas!

Here is another map I created for Eaton:Australia + flashcards of Australia territories.
Map is created based on Montessori puzzle map I bought few months ago. Names of territories I provide below in word doc (if someone is interested)

Flashcards: I printed out this map http://d-maps.com/m/australie/australie12.gif 8 times (black and white) and color outlined each territory in red. I laminated them and wrote down names on the back of cards.

I included New Guinea and New Zealand even though they don’t belong to Australia continent. They are separated Island. But that will give me a chance to talk with Eaton about them later.

Whole project took me 2 hours.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF_bWH0Ksgs Here is a video of Eaton. Honestly, I showed Eaton flashcards only 3 times and he was able to put all names on the map correctly in a row. Sometimes I think that I’m too slow with teaching my baby. He absorb everything so fast I"m really amazed.

Probably Africa map or Europe will be more challenge for him

If the map printed in color you could just use decapage attach and piece several small sheets to a larger poster board. Does anyone know where to get maps that are already colored?

He is just sooo cute! Thanks for posting your ideas and videos. I look forward to seeing more

Thank you PY and Tatianna,

The following links from your Montessori Thread posts will be great to use for Martusia’s wonderful ideas.

Twinergy, does this help you?

Love,

Mum.

Thank you Mum, that does help. Now I also know they are called Montessori pin maps so I can search for other maps too. My twins, almost 3 now, love puzzles but especially the map of USA I got from Melissa and Doug. I looked into buying the Montessori map puzzles, but they are too expensive for my budget. I have been thinking about ways to make puzzles for them, maybe laminate then cut out or print on magnetic** paper (like business cards) then cut out. They might be into the velcro labels too. I will just have to see what works.

** this would be dangerous for young children if swallowed
