Oh wow. $5 is a great price. I paid $10 for the kindle version. I will be reading it tonight when the boy goes to bed.
This is the link to Dr. Nebel’s yahoo group for Understanding Science.

It’s not too busy so it won’t take up your whole inbox.
I am considering making a curriculum for toddlers for LR based on this book with activity suggestions and books for Little tots. I want to wait until the new LR comes out as it is supposed to make this sort of thing easier. Perhaps one LR file a week with other activities to go with it. You could move much faster but as it is you would make it through the book in about a year. And i was thinking it might be nice if others were interested that maybe a collaboration might be in order.
BTW- I have this nasty cold or something and my typing stinks…please ignore.
Nee,
I only have the first one. I just went over to the site and it says you can’t print the books. If you have purchased the book on the site are you able to print it? I can’t imagine getting the book and then having to use the whole thing online. I am ready to take my to the printer, have them cut off the spine and then put holes in it so I can put it in a binder.
My version is on the kindle so I can only use it that way. Which is fine with me. My tiny house is overflowing with texts books. I am also legally blind so using my kindle is much easier for me to read. if I got the PDF I would also be reading it on my kindle.
Sonya- I have to have something in my hand to take apart as well! But Nee1 (awesome research as always!, karma! Has found the other two so inexpensively that I am going to buy the PDF as well, as soon as Alex goes to bed! I will update as soon as I have an answer for youî—
Thanks,
I’m betting they turned off the print options of the PDF’s. I have a Sony Nook. I read some stuff on it but I am old school. I want a book in hand.
Keri,
Have you have much of a chane to peruse the elemental science materials. I am intrigued by it. But I need to figure out if it is necessary and worth it.
If you are talking about the suggested book lists? If that is what you mean most of the parents are getting what they can from their local libraries and trying to find a replacement book if necessary. Most of us certainly wouldn’t be purchasing all those materials. I think you can supplement as best you can. There are some parents on the forums that just search for youtube videos that go with the lessons.
No, this is a different program that Keri mentioned ordering earlier on in this thread. It was writte. By a homeschooling parent I think. I have been eyeing it for a while. But might opt out if I really take to the Building foundations series.
I am wondering if anyone has read Richard Dawkins’ The Magic of Reality.

I just requested it from my local library. There is also an app for it.
Korrale4kq-
Yes, I actually really do like ElementalScience, although we do NOT follow it in lesson plans…and we tend to skip the coloring pages as Alexis completely bored by them and prefers to read a book with info! It IS a nice supplement, although we tend to use lots of other day-to-day activities…that being said, we are scientists. Hubby teaches chemistry at a Uni level, an I am a biologist/chemist–so we are comfortable teaching science throughout the day, intermixed with all of our activities!
Just out of curiosity, try these links: they are to the book and the teachers manual, and whilst they were supposed to be active for a limited time, we have managed to download them to various computers and IPads in our home…at the very least it will provide you with an idea!
I do love that they include loads of suggested reading materials, many of which we have already and many of which are suggested in BFSU!

Let me know if you can access them…
Keri this is awsome!! Karma to you! I will teach about nature in two weeks and unit 5 is just perfect for it.
I can not access the first link anymore!?
OoooooHhhhh!
nee1, if I could send you a 1000 karma points I would! The method to purchase the BFSU ebooks for $5.00 can be ‘adapted’ to print!
Okay, so after much trial and error, here is what I did: (please bear in mind there may well be simpler ways, but this worked on the fly!)
So, one by one I purchased the ebooks at the link that Nee1 provided ( http://outskirtspress.com/webpage.php?ISBN=9781432706104)
I had to enter CC info each time, and I ordered it on my IPad…when the link opened, I immediately sent a link to my email address…I then opened it in Kindle so as to have it there as well.
Next, I opened my email on the desktop and downloaded the file., saving it as a PDF on my desktop. I did try print and printed a few test pages!
So, the best of both worlds! Saved on my Kindle, and I have the printable PDF all for a glorious price!
Thanks again Nee1!
Yay!
Thanks for the elemental science link. I will look into it when I am not so sleeping. I too download and save PDFs on my iPad. I very seldom use a computer. LM and to print is the only reason I use one these days.
And yay for BFSU printing for you.
I also have a link to some BFSU lesson plans that look neat and compliment the book.

Another great thread!
I tried this but, while I have the PDF on my laptop & iPad, I can’t print. Guess I’ll get the actual book instead
Hey Guys,
Before you go purchasing all three BFSU books on PDF versions, I might hold off. He is coming out with a new version in the next 6 months to a year. I am sure he will have the same PDF option then as well. Just food for thought.
Sonya
I Went to the library today and got a bunch of books on the second BFSU subject. (the first we have been doing for a while). It is States of matter. James loved reading the books with me. And we discussed all the different states. He loved talking about all the matter in his body. And in typical little boy fashion he loved to point out that gas matter comes out his butt (toots) and liquid matter comes out of his penis. I am just stoked that he is understanding. I am going to do some fun things with ice and water and vapor this week. And I am going to also have daddy on board to help me talk about matter all week.
I’ve haven’t gotten the books yet. Apart from Keri, please has anyone else had any luck with printing the BSFU books?
Nee1-
When hubby comes home from work I will ask him how he did it! I do know he saved a copy, reformatted it, and finally changed the new file back to PDF format before printing…
I will ask him for details!
