Foam Violin "Foam-a-lin"

wow, that sounds like a huge pain! There has to be an easier way. hmmmmm…

Also, when searching for the M & D sound puzzle I came across this youtube clip and it looks really neat. This guy used to offer his own early learning software but has since gone out of business for whatever reason.

I’m not going to do it forever, so that’s ok. And I only needed to draw it once, and then I just “copy/paste” the same note all over the scoresheet I’d done and then I just printed it out. I find the video a little complicated, I’m afraid.

Oh I would never expect them to play from it initially, I just thought it would be good exposure initially to demonstrate the correlation between reading the notes to the piano location of the notes to the sound. I think I am going to try to show one of these video songs to my kids once a day hoping they absorb just like LR or YBCR.

waterdreamer,

The training chopsticks are also available from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=edison+chopsticks&x=0&y=0

I don’t know how useful they are for learning to use real chopsticks though. I learned to use real chopsticks from a young age without using any training ones. My DD likes to use them to pick up toy food - at least she’s practicing those fine motor movements, huh?

Yea, actually my elder 3 kids learnt to use chopsticks not from using these. They just grew into being able to use chopsticks by the time they were in primary school. But I let my youngest use - to train his muscles, that’s all. Very good for holding bow.

karmie,

I was just checking out your blog. I think it is so cool that your son is learning the erhu! How did he get interested in it in the beginning? Do you play any Chinese musical instrument yourself? I learned to play the guzheng back in high school but I’ve always loved the sound of erhu as well. I would be so happy if I could get my daughter interested in playing a Chinese instrument - eventually when she’s older. What age did your son start the erhu?

anna

LOL - my youngest 2yo boy is not learning erhu. He’s just playing around with one of his brother’s old erhu!!! My 11yo boy plays the erhu. He started at 7yo. He’s very into Chinese traditional/folk music. If you want to know more, you can PM me. ;D

Oh! Of course I was talking about your older son, TJ! I didn’t think the baby was playing erhu. lol

I found it cool that you got an 11 year-old so interested in traditional Chinese music. Anyway, I will send you a PM so I don’t completely hijack this thread!

Yup, please send me a PM if you want to ask more on this. haha! My TJ plays the gaohu and the traditional beijing jinghu.
